Visual Arts ~ Portraiture

In term 3, stage 2 will be working on Portraiture in Visual Arts. We will be looking at portraits painted by artists and drawing our own.

Here is a video called “Draw Fast a Face” by Kipiktu to show us how a portrait may be drawn.

This video is from youtube so you may not be able to see it at school (unless I am logged in). If you access youtube at home make sure a parent or carer is watching with you.

Art Show

In May we were doing art for the art show. We drew with a 2B pencil.

Next we drew hatching. Then we shaded with our finger. Lastly we made a streetscape and it looked 3-dimensional.

Here’s what Kyle thought.

At the end of May 3GK went to the art show. I saw all the children’s art work.

I sketched houses and I voted for my favourite. I saw my cousin’s drawing.

We drew a street. We shaded with our finger. We drew the houses lightly. Then we made them darker. We drew the street smaller and smaller that means perspective.

Art Show streetscape

And we sketched the street . My teacher put the paper on the display.

We wanted to find out which brand of batteries last longest.

What we used:

We used three different brand of batteries: Eveready, Coles and Varta.
And we used torches that were the same.

Hypothesis:

Most of us predicted that the eveready battery would last the longest because of the ads on TV. Kyle predicted that the Varta battery would last longest.

Method:

We switched on all the torches at the same time. We recorded what time we turned on the torches.

Results:

The Coles battery ran out first.

Eveready lasted next. Eveready lasted only for 13 hours.

The Eveready battery lasted for 13 hours
and the Varta ran out after 16 hours.

How much does it cost to run each battery per hour?

table battery/hour

The results are that the Coles battery was the cheapest battery but costs more money than the other batteries per hour. Per hour Coles cost, 62 cents.

The Varta battery lasted longest but it costs the same amount as the Eveready battery per hour. They both cost 15 cents per hour.
